Blue with Brown Accents

I'm doing a blue/brown combo here, which I love and I'm wearing my "playing it up" top. As mentioned here, the top flares at the bottom and plays up my hip area. I haven't worn boots much this fall because it hasn't been that cold; at least to us here in the Northeast who think 60 degrees is too warm. Can I get a witness?

Ethnic Print Dress

I gave away this Avon dress last year and the winner did a good job styling it in different ways. I never thought I would find another way to style it. See how Style Journey came up with different looks here.

Old Navy Favorite Fall Dresses

I'm sure you're familiar with this dress from Old Navy. Here's my take on it. Love it, love the material, and the elastic waist. The only thing I don't like about it is that the waist sits a little higher which doesn't work too well for my heavy top. Makes it even more pronounced. I'm hiding that problem with the jacket and I will find other ways to make it work. I love a challenge.

Red and Blue and Cropped Pants

I've never really done this color combo before. Is this color blocking? Not sure, but I'm still loving cobalt blue and the top actually has some blue print in it so it was a good match.
It's hard for me to find cropped pants that don't taper at the bottom and further emphasize my inverted triangle shape. This one from Old Navy (Old) fits the bill. Also, the weather has been nice this week, so it's been nice not wearing a jacket. I really don't like wearing coats or jackets.

Top - Old Navy (other designs), Cropped Pants - Old Navy (similar), Cardi - The Limited, Scarf - Target, Pumps - Nine West (other colors)
The top is actually a sleeveless top which is nice worn alone and great for layering. It's versatile and stretches your wardrobe. I wore it alone a few times in the summer.

Have a blessed rest of the week and this has been on my mind all week. It's the title of one of the songs we sang at church on Sunday- maybe it's for someone:
Taste and See that the Lord is so good!

The Ponte Knit Skirt

I love Ponte knit pencil skirts because they are a great alternative to a regular pencil skirt. You can dress them down and they come in many different colors. This particular one though has too much spandex and hugs every where. It's even hugging my knees and I can't walk well...another shopping mistake. I was drawn to the stripes. The best I could do was wear wear it with a sweater. A jacket will also work and maybe a longer shirt belted. Maybe I'll keep it and make it work but Note to self: "Avoid Ponte Skirts with too much spandex"

Black and a Pop of Leopard

Thank God for little black dresses. They are classic and make you look slimmer. I think a little black dress is a must for every wardrobe. When you have nothing to wear, it's a great go to....Add a pop of color, or leopard and you're done.

Rust and Navy

A color I love for fall is rust; and I like the way it looks with navy blue. I won't be surprised if it becomes the "IT" color next fall. Ox Blood took that honor this year.

How to Wear Skinny Jeans if You are.......

........shorter, older, have a big mid section, curvy, short waisted, and heavy on top. All of these describe me; except the curvy part.

I haven't been able to wear skinny jeans the way models and other bloggers wear them because of my body shape and height. It never looks good but I try to find ways to make it work. Skinny pants are usually low rise, too tight and not really designed for the above mentioned body types but here are some ways I wear my skinnies.

1. Wear with a tunic (see here, here, here and below) or longer length top, and belt if you want a hour glass shape (in my case I'm smaller in my bottom half so I usually belt to distract from that problem).  If you're bottom heavy, wear with a tunic that hugs your hips or that's more fitting to further slim down the hip area.

2. Wear with heels. Skinny jeans definitely look better on me when I wear with heels. Although I wear with flats, but not as flattering (see here).

3. Buy from the right store to find mid rise, and thicker material options. There may be other stores but I've had luck with Target (The Mossimo pants are by fit. You can find your perfect fit)  The Limited, Macy's (Style and Co). The famous Old Navy Rock Star did not work for me.

4. Wear a jacket or coat, opened to distract from any imbalance (see here).

On another note, has anyone noticed that kids and teenagers do not wear boot cut jeans. The ones in my life will not be caught dead in any other type of jeans but skinnies.

Have you had problems wearing skinny jeans?

Red, Black and White with a Trench

I spotted this trench coat at Target and had to get it. I've always wanted a printed coat. I love the print and also love the fact that it is not double breasted. Double breasted trench coats don't work for my heavy top.

Changing Roles, Changing Outfits

I work from home one day a week and I usually feel weird dressing up on a day I'm home; so it's just jeans and a top with minimal jewelry for me. But on many days, like I've mentioned before I do so many things and play so many roles that my outfit has to change with every role or activity. Mom (can I call myself chic mommy today), Engineer, Avon Lady, Singer...... and so on. So here goes.

Layering Done Right

I wrote about the versatile mustard cardigan and wore this same cardigan and pants here. After looking at the picture, I realize I was wrong with the layering.  In my rush to get out of the house, I always wear a black tank under a cardigan. I never know what to wear as my base. Now, I think I know better. With my body shape, it's better to have a base that is not clingy. Lesson learnt!

Don't be afraid, like me to invest in shells even though you know you will be layering it with a cardigan and they might be a little pricy. They go a long way in transforming and making your outfit work. The many colors on this shell makes it more versartile. I see myself wearing this many times.

Webster Sheath

I saw this Webster for Target dress on sale a few months ago and had to get it. I liked the quality, design and fit and couldn't pass it up. My body shape doesn't like sheath dresses but this one has the right cut. It was shorter than I would have liked, so I added 6 inches to the hem. No, I don't do DIY.....took it to my tailor.
The dress was the best choice for Monday morning. Woke up late and I needed a dress; not an outfit I had to mix and match. I also didn't need a slip or spanx. Layered it with a cardi and I was good to go.

I think I'm now suceeding in finding pieces and keeping only the ones that fit my body type and these pumps are so comfortable. I'm feeling the rust color for fall.

Blue Maxi

This Gap T-shirt maxi dress is living up to its name. It's very soft, comfortable and I could wear it to bed. It's also not clingy and hides all my flaws. It also has an A-line shape and balances out my inverted triangle shape. I like it when I find a maxi dress that does that.
